JANUARY 7

A minor earthquake in the early hours of the morning wakes Station residents. Research Division determines that abnormal rift readings are spiking again, much like they did before the Pulse.

JANUARY 8

Intermittent flares from the Rift are causing minor power outages and technological failures around the Station this week. While these are relatively minor inconveniences, the directors are vigilant about another potential incident. All Station residents are asked to fill out a daily survey detailing their mood and any anomalies they’ve noticed with their powers.

JANUARY 12

Mid-morning, a small prop plane glances off Enodia Station’s dome and crashes into the Riftlands. Explorers are deployed to investigate the crash site, where they recover the unconscious pilot and determine the plane’s origin to be Terminus Station, a multinational outpost in Antarctica that is usually manned by a skeleton crew. Terminus’s only current American employee is IRIS scientist Dr. Veda Clarke. Getting in touch with her reveals that Terminus is missing no personnel or aircraft, although she does report the twin Antarctic Rifts have also been acting up in the past couple of weeks.

JANUARY 18

Crysta Waldinger receives a late-night text message from Ernestine Waters, who informs her that two FBI agents have booked rooms at the Water Lily in Colchester and paid upfront for an entire month.

JANUARY 24

⚡️Flash Reactionary: The FBI agents visit Enodia station to question certain residents. As it turns out, Zeke Zelizer knows one of them.

Powers on the fritz: Feel free to say your character's powers are acting up or not, whatever suits you better. General findings from around the station will be that only about one in fifteen employees is suffering ill effects from these flares.

Dr. Veda Clarke: She/her, about 40 years old, atmospheric physicist, liminal (technopath). She's been at Terminus Station for five years or so. As a longtime employee of IRIS, any characters who feel like they might know her personally or by reputation are free to say they do. Just let me know what you're thinkin'.

Jan 24 Volunteer: I'm going to DM whoever takes this spot to work out a backstory. I have very very rough outlines for these two characters, but I'm flexible on the details, and I'd love for this connection to be meaningful/impactful!

I am keeping Raine & Shannon for this ~~and I might use Taryn as like, an additional NPC if it suits me~~ nvrmnd since Rhia is here I am just keeping Taryn... 3 char club for life.

also, Q for the group: where do you want to like, post stuff? I'm a LIL too self conscious to post things publicly/in the Enodia comm bc I do consider it ✨non-canonical✨ so I'd prefer doing stuff elsewhere. Should I make a new comm for stuff? Post it on journals? 🤔 lmk what y'all think

I've just got Zeke for this but maybe eventually that cousin of Sal's I kept daydreaming about will be born.........

Enoch regularly collaborates with other physicists at other research stations so it would make sense for him to know Dr. Clarke! I'm pretty open to whatever would be the most narratively interesting thing here, but I think it could be cool for them to be friends since they've both worked at IRIS for awhile. but also Dr. Clarke could find him annoying bc he is an obnoxious baby genius who sends unsolicited emails critiquing ppl's papers

i think they should absolutely be friends... i realized too late how insane it is that this woman has been living in antarctica for five years but now i'm just imagining her semi-feral and bothering ppl on the internet for environmental enrichment. maybe they get into friendly arguments in the comment sections of other ppl's papers on IRIS AO3 and annoy everyone else 😌
