Someone even sadder than you. Which is a short list, I realise.

Well, thank you. It's nice to be objectified for a change. You can't imagine how exhausting it is to be told every single day how witty and clever I am.

Well, if you ever get tired of drinking pigswill, you're welcome to stop by my office for something better.

Would you like it better if I was humble?

And all the more devious because you pretend to have no talent whatsoever for subterfuge.

You enjoy that I'm annoying. But I already knew that. [...] Should I stop trying to test your illusion perception?

And just what would your ultimate goal be?

Alright. Tell me something: do you understand sign language?

Oh, obviously. I'm sure my office holds no other attractions.

Crysta and Parson have learned to detect my illusions; they just had to get inventive with their powers to do it. You've seen my crow illusion before. Its caws are based on hours upon hours of crow videos, filtered through my memory. Do the illusory caws say anything to you, or do they not carry any inherent meaning?

The view would be improved with you visiting.

Interesting. Of course a creation of my own brain would be highly inventive in expressing itself.

[A dark grey felt tote, holding two bottles of wine: a 2011 Massolino Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda, and a 2020 Pescevino Bianco. (Only one of these is a nice bottle of wine, and the other is a joke.) Pinned to the bag is a folded note in Enoch's careful handwriting:]
For you, I've selected an incredibly nice Barolo Nebbiolo. At first glance, it seems light, even frivolous. Not the sort of wine people take seriously based just on looks. But a taste reveals that it is startlingly opinionated, stubborn and lingering even after you've set it down, and with a depth and complexity that resists being fully deciphered after only a few sips. Very dry, very understated, very refreshing. In the first few years, this vintage is both intriguing and almost intolerable, but given some time to develop, it mellows into something with considerable longevity. Now is an excellent time for this bottle. But it will hold, if you're not sure you want to open it yet.

The Pescevino is ... drinkable. But I personally find it charming.
[The bottom edge of the paper is a little too close to the last line, as though there was something else written after that, then torn off upon second thought.]

It's been quiet around here. You can hardly blame me for wanting to stay occupied.

Welcome home. What sort of dire situation could you have possibly stumbled into in your own apartment?

Despite the things I say, I do enjoy having y people around. They keep things interesting.

Personally, I would find an elaborate and evil Rube Goldberg machine to be the nicest gift of all.

I've already had to adjust my list of the most useless employees at Enodia. Turns out some people's contributions to the ambiance can't be properly measured until they're gone.

Before you go to any great lengths, you should know that one bottle cost me less than twenty dollars and the other one didn't cost me anything at all, so I've technically avoided your requirements for a nice gift.

He of the green-stained fingers and clouds of vape fumes? Absolutely not. But I did find myself missing Spirit, just a little bit. You can always foretell their presence by the waves of annoyance that ripple through a crowd, like a forest wildfire. Few people make that kind of impact on the world.

Wow. You like that I committed a crime for you.
